Light a Fire...

Now that i have some more time to myself, i'm going to post some more of my thoughts, reviews, and otherwise. Allow me a quick paragraph to update where i've been for the past.......however long it's been since i posted up:
-365/365. If you can't tell by the home page, i've finished my three sixty-five project without missing a day. i'm really proud of myself. however, here arises a problem: my head/heart cannot decide whether or not to take a 3 month hiatus from photography or to keep shooting every day like the project never ended. In a way, i grounded myself for a couple weeks..i stifled the urge to "find something to shoot before midnight" and tried to live my life without the viewfinder for a few days. I feel like i made the right decision. I'm now slowly warming back up to shooting a lot and it feels great. Looking back on the past year of photos...it's intense to say the least.
-Wedding photography: i'm not huge into it, but i just wrapped up a weekend of shooting for a coworker of mine. Please check out the gallery at Shutterfly. This was a good lesson in event photography. I notice that a lot of the time it takes me a bit to get in the groove--both in terms of comfort and settings. So i'm trying to take notice of when i'm in that groove and know how that feels so i can get to it quicker on the next shoot. The more i'm in the groove, the higher my success rate is. But i really had a fun time, i think that helps in getting more comfortable. Check out that gallery (click the image) and send some feedback!
-New equipment!: now aiding in my photogging exploits are a couple new additions to the family. First, Manfrotto ball-head tripod outfit. Head: Joystick Head #222 and Base: Basic Tripod #190XDB. It's a sweet, somewhat weighty, SOLIDly-built piece of hardware that makes me wish i'd bought this setup years ago. The price was certainly steep, but i think i got what i paid for. There will be a review once i get some more time behind the lens. Secondly, and more crazily, i picked up a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO DGII Macro tele-lens. It's a giant chunk of a lens and has some great reach, acting as a 105-300mm f/2.8 on the D300. Expect a review after i get a few hundred more, and of course review photos to accompany said reviews. For now i'm off to listen to the new Fall of Troy: In The Unlikely Event... cheers.
